- 1). Cut four sections of 1 by 3 inch wooden strapping; two 1-foot long sections for stakes and two crosspiece sections equal to the width of the trap. Cut points, with a saw, at one end of both 1-foot long stake sections.
- 2). Lay one of the crosspieces lengthwise on a workbench or table. Arrange both stake sections perpendicular to the crosspiece with the points of the stakes pointing downward.
- 3). Align the top ends of the stakes with the ends and sides of the cross piece; one stake at each end of the crosspiece. Set correctly, the outline should resemble an upside-down square shaped "U" with points on the bottom ends.
- 4). Lay the second crosspiece across the top ends of the stake sections so both cross pieces are perfectly aligned with each other.
- 5). Drill two 1/4-inch pilot holes through all three pieces of strapping at both ends of the stabilizers; the top of each stake section and both cross pieces. Fasten the three pieces of strapping at each end of the stabilizers with 3/8 inch diameter, 2 1/2 inch long wood screws and a screwdriver.
- 6). Pound the stabilizer into the ground, where you want to set the trap, with a rubber mallet. Drive the stabilizer into the ground so the double crosspiece is flush with the ground. Set the springs of the trap and place the gap between the bottom springs over the stabilizer.
