Gingerbread House Competition

Sacramento Self-Help Housing is inviting all of Sacramento to participate in a gingerbread house competition. Both families and individuals are welcome to create their own cookie homes that will be placed on display for the public to view and enjoy.
It’s free to participate, but a request for donations help to benefit this organization that works to resolve homelessness in Sacramento.
Holiday Craft Faire

Come support local artisans at this holiday faire featuring jewelry, handmade crafts, trinkets and more. Santa will be on hand for photos, along with Mrs. Claus and a friendly elf. Admission is free and the faire is happening in rooms 10, 11, 12 at the Sierra 2 Center
Holiday Tapestry 2014

Come enjoy a performance presented by Galena Street East – a youth theatre company aged 4-18. Song, dance and international holiday celebration are the center of this year’s theme – “Passport to the Holidays.” Tickets are $15 general, $12 students, and there are three performances to choose from.
Arm Knitting Class

Learn to knit a thick infinity scarf in just an hour by using some basic yarn – and your arms! These make fantastic gifts once complete, or keep it for yourself and show it off to friends and family. Prior knitting experience is not required, and space is limited. Cost of workshop is $45 and includes all necessary materials.
Christmas Eve Zoo Pajama Party

Free admission is being offered at the Sacramento Zoo on December 24 for all those who come in their pajamas. It’s a great way to spend a fun morning/afternoon while awaiting the excitement of Christmas Eve night. Plenty of animals will be out to say hello, and this event will quickly become a family tradition you all look forward to.
A Celtic Christmas

Make it a date to see the renowned Sacramento Master Singers – their upcoming 2015 tour of Scotland has inspired them to present a Celtic Christmas for us here at home to enjoy. This Christmas concert is being performed several times, as well as at Harris Center for the Arts in Folsom on December 14. Admission is $20 per person.

The Theatre of Lights blends together the vintage feel of Sacramento with advanced technological displays of sound and light. This is the sixth year Macy’s has sponsored a free holiday program for the community, and this year promises to be better than ever with plenty of Sacramento-inspired tales of heroism and adventure mixed in with plenty of Christmas cheer.

Take your children on a magical train ride featuring a Christmas story, plenty of entertainment and homemade hot chocolate & cookies. All children will receive a visit from Santa at your pre-assigned train seats. Tickets range in price from $30-$200, depending upon the number of your party and what’s included. Various dates throughout December are available, making it a convenient Christmas surprise for any family.
Sacramento Santa Parade

The Sacramento Santa Parade is a favorite tradition downtown, and this year it has gotten additional support and enthusiasm from the local community who has stepped up to sponsor it following the tear-down of their primary sponsors – Downtown Plaza businesses. The parade begins at 10am and is free to watch. You may also enter a float or group into the parade for a sponsorship fee.
