- 1). Most Nigerian scam emails use capital letters for many words that would be filled in by the scammer using a template. For example:

The scammer always has a large sum of money needing to be transfered out of their country.
- 3). The scammer offers you a percentage of the sum of money as a reward for helping them - often this amount is in millions of dollars.
- 4). The scammer usually claims to be part of the government, and lists many official sounding government offices and titles. Also they may appear to be in danger and must keep the transaction completely secret.
- 5). The scammer also may offer to purchase something you have listed for sale for more than the purchase price. They will send you a money order and ask to be refunded the difference. The money order laters turns out to be fake and the scammer makes off with cash plus your item.
