Morgan Hill, CA: Veterans To Be Identified On Their Drivers License, Great News For Those Applying For Benefits: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California State lawmakers all across the nation are working diligently to pass legislation which would force the Department of Motor Vehicles to identify veterans officially on their drivers license. That's great news for anyone who has ever applied for veterans benefits. Often times, it's required that you carry official discharge papers, not just a copy, in order to be identified as a veteran. Those that have served our country should not have to jump through hoops in order to get the benefits that they are due. I've worked with senior clients trying to pry loose veterans benefits from the government and it can be a challenge. Like applying for Medi-Cal, the documentation process can be long and arduous. It's great that a veteran would be able to show their papers once at the DMV and be done with pulling out the papers once and for all. This may also encourage more local businesses to give discounts to veterans like many do for senior citizens, because this will make the identification process much easier. William "Sarge" Garlitz, 69, commander of American Legion Post 166 told USA Today the measure is long overdue. "It should have been done years ago," said Garlitz, who served in the Vietnam war. Twelve states have already passed legislation and I hope California will not be far behind them. I served in our nation's military and am proud of those who have given their time and risked their lives for others.
