- 1). Locate the electrical connector on the throttle position sensor or TPS. Do not unplug it. There is room to insert test leads into the connector from the back, but be careful not to damage the wires.
- 2). Turn the ignition on but do not start the Jeep. Verify that the throttle plate in the neck of the throttle body is completely closed before starting this procedure.
- 3). Turn on the volt meter and insert the black lead into the back of terminal D. The terminals are marked on the plastic connector. Insert the red lead from the voltmeter into the back of terminal A. Note the reading on the voltmeter. This is the input reading.
- 4). Remove the red test lead from terminal A and insert it into the back of terminal B. Note the reading on the voltmeter for this position. This is the output reading.
- 5). Divide the output voltage by the input voltage and make note of the result. Ideally this number should be between .825 and .835 (.830 being perfect). If your result is outside this range, loosen the top mounting bolt with a Torx bit and ratchet and rotate the TPS slightly.
- 6). Recheck the input and output voltages with every adjustment that you make. When you are within the specified range, tighten the mounting bolt and torque it to 60 inch-pounds with the Torx bit and a torque wrench.
