- 1). Update the drivers for your graphics hardware. Many latency problems are traced to incompatibility between PowerPoint, the operating system and software that controls the graphics display hardware. Issues that arise in this data flow make themselves known through response time delays between keystrokes or mouse clicks and their effect on the screen. Contact the manufacturer of your graphics hardware to download updated drivers and install them, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- 2). Update the printer drivers installed in your operating system. The PowerPoint program interacts with the installed printer drivers and they may degrade the performance of the software. Contact the manufacturer of your printer or printers to download updated drivers, and install them according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- 3). Verify that the interaction between your antivirus software and PowerPoint is not affecting the performance of the software. The constant checking for virus threats that some antivirus programs perform may interfere with other software, especially if it installs an intrusive, application-specific module into the Office suite. Temporarily disable the module or the antivirus program to determine if this is the source of the latency. Contact your antivirus vendor to determine if updates to your software are available.
- 4). Check the presentation for OLE linked images and other items. Images, charts and other graphics or media that are dragged into a PowerPoint link back to the application that produced or manages them and the communication can introduce lag into the target software. Insert images and other media through the "Insert" tab on the Ribbon menu.
