- 1). Turn your car on and leave it running throughout the entire process, unless your 2003 Volkswagen Beetle vehicle manual tells you otherwise.
- 2). Open the hood of your Volkswagen Beetle. Locate the automatic transmission fluid dipstick. This will be located near the back of your engine. This dipstick looks similar to your oil dipstick, but is shorter.
- 3). Pull the dipstick out of its tube and wipe the tip of the dipstick with a rag. An indicator will appear. Because some dipsticks have markings for different temperatures on each side of the dipstick (warm vs. cold), check the opposite side of the dipstick to see if there are markings there as well. If so, utilize the "warm" side.
You will also notice that the dipstick has two markings on one side. The marking closest to the dipstick's tip indicates that the automatic transmission fluid is near empty. The second marking indicates that the fluid is full. - 4). Place the dipstick back into place and pull it out once again. Using the same "warm" side, analyze the markings to determine whether the fluid is empty or full. If it is empty, continue to the next step.
- 5). Place your funnel into the tube that the dipstick came out of, and slowly pour the automatic transmission fluid into the funnel, stopping every once in a while to check whether the fluid has reached the "full" marking. When you are finished, place your dipstick back into the tube and turn off your Volkswagen Beetle.
