Is it so absurd? In modern Britain, the idea isn't quite as far fetched.
For one, the inherently multicultural British society means that there are large numbers of families in the UK who simply don't have the traditional Roast Turkey for Christmas dinner, and many don't even recognize Christmas at all.
The majority of multicultural faiths however, those that are adapted to UK life, are usually quite happy to integrate some kind of Christmas celebration even if it isn't originally in their faith.
This is the beauty of UK multiculturalism - when it works anyway - of numerous faiths coming together and enjoying national holidays just for the hell of it, not because any faith dictates it but because being BRITISH dictates it! One family I know serves steak for breakfast on Xmas morning - the reason being it prepares the metabolism for the main event coming later! Another solves the problem of vegetarians and picky eaters by ordering a take-away curry on Xmas eve and reheating it for Xmas dinner! So how about trying a curry for your Xmas dinner this year? One great suggestion is to make a number of Christmas colored curries - 1 red tomato based one, and 1 green spinach curry! You could also serve Xmas Kebabs with turkey meat, red and green peppers; and if you're really in an adventurous mood, why not extend the Xmas colors to some flavored yoghurt-based drinks! Anyway, I propose that Xmas dinner itself isn't all that important - anything your family can all enjoy together makes the perfect Xmas meal in my opinion, so go crazy! In fact, the only important thing is that whatever you choose, you make it a tradition for you and your family, so that you can enjoy it every year~!
