- 1). Buy the correct auto carpet kit for your vehicle. Each model and make has a specific type of carpet that will only work in that vehicle.
- 2). Remove the seats from the car using a wrench. Remove the old carpet by pulling it up with your hands.
- 3). Open the carpet box and spread it out in a sunny location. Use your hand to smooth out any large wrinkles. You also might have to push out some of the pre-molded areas of the carpet. Allow the carpet to sit for about two hours in the sun.
- 4). Open all of the vehicle's doors and lay the carpet inside. Align the carpet so that the pre-molded portions of the carpet match the bumps within the vehicle's floor.
- 5). Press the carpet against the floor to mold it. Heat the carpet with a hair dryer while pressing the carpet into the floor. This will help permanently mold the carpet to your vehicle's floor.
- 6). Use a piece of chalk to mark the placement of all bolts, shift sticks, foot pedals and other areas that must be cut.
- 7). Cut away any excess carpet using heavy-duty scissors. This will make a cleaner cut than cutting the carpet with a knife.
- 8). Cut any spaces from the carpet with a utility knife. Cut out the areas using an "X" shape. Slide the carpet over the joints. Cut any excess carpet with the scissors.
