- 1). Collect the server information of your email provider. In addition to the username and password you use to log into your account, you will need the POP3 server address and port number. This information is available from the help section of your mail service. Most services also have detailed instructions to help you set up POP3 download using popular email clients.
- 2). Set up a new account in your email client. This will require you to enter the server and account information you collected above.
- 3). Decide how often you need your client to check for new messages. For example, setting this option to 5 minutes tells your email client to connect to the mail server every 5 minutes and see if there are any new email messages. Using a short interval means you will get your emails with minimum delay, but you will be using your computer's resources unnecessarily unless you get emails constantly.
