- 1). Mix up the media before planting the bulb. For container or garden plants, use 1 part garden soil, 1 part peat moss and 1 part coarse sand with just a dusting of lime. Mix well.
- 2). Pick a location that will have full sun in the afternoon and early evening. A southern location with some western sun will work the best.
- 3). Plant the bulbs 5 inches down in the soil during the fall. Plant the bulbs 2 to 4 inches apart in a garden or plant three bulbs 2 inches apart in a 6-inch container with drainage holes.
- 4). Water the bulbs so the soil is wet after planting. Continue to give the bulbs water once a month during winter. Keep the soil damp during spring and summer during flowering. Sprouts will be visible during the fall and winter, which will collect energy from the sun for the spring bloom.
