- Knock Out is a shrub rose growing 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide. Its canes are many-branched, with each branch bearing several clusters of single cerise flowers. It makes a full, stunning display when in bloom. Knock Out was bred specially to be resistant to the three most common rose diseases: powdery mildew, rust and black spot. Home gardeners and professionals, alike, are impressed by its resistance to the deadly black spot.
- Knock Out, like most roses, requires a sunny site -- the sunnier the better. It grows best in fertile, well-drained soil. A heavy feeder, Knock Out will require regular fertilization and watering to keep up with its hungry and thirsty nature. This showy bush can be planted as a specimen in the perennial border or in rows as foundation plantings and hedges.
- Like most roses, Knock Out has a big root system that can grow 18 inches or more into the ground. When planting, the hole doesn't have to be quite that deep because the plant will grow into existing soil. Recommendations for hole depth are usually 15 inches. If your soil is particularly heavy, an 18-inch hole will give the plant extra depth of improved soil to grow into. The soil should be amended with composted manure to aid in nutrition, water retention and drainage.
- Plant Knock Out roses 3 feet apart if planting in groups or hedges. This gives the roots room to grow and facilitates air circulation, which is important in disease prevention. Mulch all rose soils to conserve moisture and protect the roots from sun and wind. Roses planted in heavy or soggy soils are vulnerable to root rot, so water as necessary, but not excessively.
