- 1). Decide upon a topic for your collage. Don't plan too far ahead--your work will be restricted by the relevant images you can find.
- 2). Find images related to your topic that you would like to use in a collage. For example, if you would like to create a collage depicting a family vacation, pick out a few of your favorite images and set them aside on your computer.
- 3). Open Adobe Photoshop and create a new document by clicking "File" and then "New."
- 4). Decide upon a good size for your collage and input the dimensions on the screen that appear in Adobe Photoshop. A typical piece of printer paper is 8.5-inches by 11-inches in size. Most computer screens are 1024 by 768 pixels.
- 5). Open all of the images you want to use for your collage in Photoshop. Do this by clicking "File" and then "Open." You can open all of the images by selecting each one at the same time.
- 1). Choose the lasso tool by pressing "L" on your keyboard. Hold down your left mouse button and then circle the image you would like to use in your collage.
- 2). Release the mouse button and the outline of your circle should become a moving dotted line. If the circle encompasses the part of your image you would like to use, press "Ctrl+C" on your keyboard.
- 3). Switch back to the new image you created for your collage and press "Ctrl+V." This should paste part of the image you selected onto your blank canvas.
- 4). Repeat the previous three steps until all of your images are together on the blank canvas. Don't worry about arrangement and composition just yet.
- 5). Switch to the move tool by pressing "V" while on your new image. This allows you to move the individual images around your canvas. You can select which image you want to move by selecting the appropriate layer on the right side of the screen.
- 6). Select the layer of the image you want to move and then drag it to your desired location on the canvas. You can also rearrange layers to determine which images appear in front or in back of one another.
- 7). Arrange the images until the canvas has a look you are satisfied with. All you need now is a little bit of creativity to make an appealing collage!
