- 1). Peel away any leaves you find on the lower part of the stems and cut off any thorns with the scissors. Cutting off the thorns is especially important if the bouquet is going to be held for a long time such as in a wedding. Remove the leaves and thorns while holding the flowers halfway up the stem. Be careful to grasp the flowers in areas where there are no thorns while you are doing this.
- 2). Gather the shorter flowers and foliage together. These short flowers tend to get lost in a large bunch so to avoid this use the floral tape to hold them in place, then you can simply add them to the arrangement as though they were one stem. This way the shorter flowers are more likely to be seen rather than sinking out of sight.
- 3). Place one flower stem right on top of another at a 45-degree angle. Depending on your tastes, you can either use contrasting colored flowers next to each other or group similar colored flowers together.
- 4). Add another stem at an angle and keep adding others at an angle, arranging them in a clockwise direction until all the flowers and foliage are in the arrangement, including the small bunch of shorter flowers. Hold the bunch lightly so you don't crush any of the stems.
- 5). Bind the flowers together with the twine or wrap them with the floral tape where you have been holding the bunch. Finish by tying the satin ribbon around the middle of the stems.
- 6). Cut the stems across the bottom with scissors so that they are even.
