- Before starting any troubleshooting steps, it is important to note that the GE washing machine pauses several times during the course of a cycle. These pauses are normal and allow for water to enter and drain from the tub. When the washer pauses during the spin cycle, this is deliberate so that soapy water may exit the machine more efficiently. Wait for a few minutes to see if the cycle resumes operation as usual. In addition, if in a soak cycle, 15 to 30 minutes may pass before the washer begins to spin.
- Take a look at the power supply for the washing machine. Reset or replace the circuit breaker or fuse as needed and push the washing machine power cord completely into the power outlet. Move any other appliances to a different outlet, as multiple appliances operating on the same circuit will reduce power supply and may affect the operation of the washing machine.
- Remember that the lid must be closed in order for the washing machine to operate, and the washer will not spin if the lid is open. Check the lid switch and make sure it is latching properly when the lid is closed. Wipe the switch with a clean, damp cloth and then dry it if debris appears to be obstructing proper latching.
- Make sure the speed selector switch is pointed at a speed level and not in-between speeds. Reset the water level selector by moving it up or down to make sure it doesn't stick. There may also be something stuck in the pump. If efforts to resolve the situation have failed, turn off the washing machine and contact GE at 800-432-2737 for assistance.
