It"s Not Ok Not To Pay!

Let's see if this sounds familiar, the phone rings 10 times a day.
Your relatives are "furious" that someone is calling them looking for you constantly.
Your neighbor just left a message in your mailbox stating to call Mike Hammer at 1800-555-5555.
They want to speak to you regarding a "personal business matter".
It's hard to fall asleep a night because of that damn guilty feeling you have deep in your stomach.
This is the life of someone in deep debt.
No matter what the circumstance, be it divorce, job loss or sickness.
I'm sure you're not happy about the situation.
Not only is this a lonely dark road but probably the most self deprecating time in your life.
The more negative you get the worse it is and every time the phone rings you get that constant reinforcement.
On a daily basis I deal with people in this situation and they usually fall into 3 categories: 1.
Close-minded: These are the people that are in denial.
They know all the laws and since they are in foreclosure what is the point of paying.
They think that the credit card company was stupid enough to give them the card shame on them.
Classic Phrase: "My brother is a collection attorney" 2.
Their Terms: These are people that take responsibility for the debt but want to repay on their own terms.
They tend to think that the interest rate was ridiculous and should not have to pay late fines.
Classic Phrase: "I have been a cardholder for 15 years, and this is how I'm rewarded" 3.
Open Minded: These are the people that want out of the shackles of debt and want to be able to sleep at night.
They are open to discussion of ways in which to settle debts and are willing to sacrifice to do so.
Classic Phrase: "Give me my options" Which one do you think gets the better deal?My point is this, I'm fully aware of the type of people that become collection agents.
If you feel harassed or talked down upon do something about it.
File a complaint with the Attorney General or Better Business Bureau.
Most collectors believe it or not will empathize with your situation and do their best to make a good deal for the client and you.
The worst thing you can do is not act.
I understand fully you don't want to think about it.
You will find in life most of the time the thing you don't want to do is exactly what you should do.
Letting your voicemail fill up is not going to change things.
If there is no reason in the near future think you can pay it talk to a attorney.
DON'T SIT IDLE it will only get worse it was designed that way.
To quote Plato in from the Republic: "But in fact, it is a mistake why you should do your duty-why you should refuse to lie or break promises, why you should pay your debts, or action justly as between two parties.
It is simply self evident that you should, even though the balance of resulting good may be, and is often, not on the side of justice.
