How Mormons Celebrate Christmas

Mormons are Christians.
So when Christmas comes around, they join in with other Christians to celebrate the birth and life of Christ.
It is a special time of year where they all gather with their families and loved ones.
They eat lots of great food, sing Christmas songs and decorate their houses.
Many of them join in the tradition of Santa Claus and spend Christmas morning opening up presents that have been left under the tree.
When Mormon families have a member of their family serving a mission, Christmas becomes even more important.
LDS missionaries leave their families for up to two years to go out and serve.
While they are on their mission they are not allowed to call home or to come back home for a visit.
Most communication is done through email and letters.
The only exception is the on Christmas Day and Mother's Day, missionaries can make a phone call home to say hello to their family.
This is what makes Christmas so special.
Many family members are more excited about talking to their mission than to open presents.
It's a great time for everyone to gather around the phone and talk to someone they love and miss so much.
It's also a very special day for the missionary, because they've been away from home and now they get to hear everyone's voices and find out what has been happening at home.
The phone call home is usually what the missionary looks forward to more than anything else on Christmas.
Another thing that missionaries look forward during the holidays is gifts and packages sent from home.
These gifts include holiday treats, food, photos and letters from home, new clothes and small exercise equipment such as jump ropes or ankle weights.
Missionaries live out of two suitcases throughout their missions, so whatever is sent to them they have to be able to fit into their suitcases.
Christmas is a special time of year for Mormons and for all Christians.
Mormon missionaries love Christmas because they get to connect with home and talk to their families and loved ones.
They also usually get packages of food and other items from home.
It's a great time of year to celebrate family time and to remember how blessed you are.
If you know a Mormon missionary, help to make their Christmas special by sending them a gift to let them know you are.
