Have you ever found yourself standing at the refrigerator or staring at a menu in a restaurant, and not being able to see anything that you really fancied? That is the problem with a society filled with cheap food in abundance, we regularly get bored with our daily meals.
One of the problems is that our bodies are cleverer about poor food choices than we tend to be. Our bodies inform us with headaches, fatigue and intestinal rumblings, but we tend to ignore these warnings. Eventually, our brain will play tricks on us, as whenever we see a type of food that has given us internal problems before, our brain will send us signals saying that we are not hungry, to keep us from making the same mistakes again.
If your diet consists of food that is mainly bad for you, your brain is wired with refusal messages which will mean that you could be stood in the middle of a huge grocery store and you would not be able to select anything that is appealing to you. This type of apathy is caused by tedium. Your body gets bored with all the artificial food you eat, food that generally tastes the same. It craves a healthy variety of food.
The gap has been filled very quickly by the food industry to cater for busy people with no time to cook. However, the products they produce tend to contain very high levels of fat, salt and sugar and are far more expensive than food prepared from scratch. People still keep eating this stuff up though, either because they do not know any better or because nothing else appeals to them.
It all comes down to how much you care about your health. Eating healthily just involves planning ahead and taking the time to prepare decent, nutritious meals from scratch.
