Unicorn Party Ideas

    • Creating a special birthday party can be tricky. You can make it easier by choosing a theme based on something your special little one loves. A unicorn theme is fun and easy to do by choosing the right decorations, games and cakes. And, a unicorn theme doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg.

    Decorations

    • You can find lots of unicorn-themed party decorations online. Choose cups, plates and napkins that have a unicorn on them. You can also find Mylar balloons with or in the shape of unicorns. You can match streamers and latex party balloons to the colors of the purchased decorations. If your child has unicorn toys, place them around the party room for a personal touch.

    Activities

    • To tie in fun and games, mix some playdough with some glitter you can purchase at a craft store. You can either make your own playdough by mixing two parts of flour with one part of water, or you can purchase premade dough. Simply sprinkle glitter into the dough and use your hands to mix it. The amount to use depends how sparkly you want the dough to be. Allow the guests to make their own unicorns out of the dough and take home their creations in a zip-top bag.

Another idea is to draw and color a unicorn on a piece of poster board. Cut out horn shapes from a second piece of poster board. Allow the guests to decorate their own horns and place a piece of double sided tape on the back. Then blindfold each guest in turn, spin them around and have them pin the horn on the unicorn. The guest that is closest wins.

    Cake

    • Coming up with a birthday cake idea can be easier than you suspect. If you don't wish to purchase a cake from a bakery, you can make your own. There are cake pans that can be purchased at craft stores that are shaped like horses or unicorns. If you use a horse pan, you can use an ice cream cone placed on the center of the horses head for the horn. Use icing to frost the cake and the horn to match your color scheme of the party decorations. You could also carve a cake in the shape of a unicorn and use fondant or icing or decorate it.

    Party Favors

    • Party favors are special treats your party guests can take home. Other than the playdough unicorns the guests make, you can purchase small trinkets to send home as well. You can include things such as stickers, pencils or unicorn-shaped cookies.
