- 1). Start your Weed Eater XR-50 and use it to trim for about five minutes. Accurate carburetor adjustments can be made only after the engine is warm and has been used for a little while.
- 2). Stop the trimmer's engine and then remove the air filter by hand. It is located right next to the adjustment screws beneath the gas tank.
- 3). Use a screwdriver to turn the mixture screw all the way to the right. However, do not tighten it too tight as it can damage the needle and seal on the inside of the mechanism.
- 4). Open the mixture screw 1 1/8 turn counterclockwise.
- 5). Turn the idle adjustment screw all the way to the right and then turn it five complete turns counterclockwise.
- 6). Start your trimmer again and set it on the ground so that the front end is propped up by the line shield. Run the trimmer at full throttle. Turn the mixture screw clockwise until the speed slows and then turn the screw counterclockwise just until the engine begins to run a little rough.
- 7). Adjust the idle screw. If the trimmer is running fast, turn the adjustment screw to the left to slow it. However, if it stalls or runs slow, turn the idle screw to the right to speed it up some.
- 8). Allow the engine to idle. If the engine does not spin freely without stalling or moving too fast, try to process again or bring your XR-50 into a service repair shop.
- 9). Replace the air filter.
