- 1). Unscrew the spark plug using the spark plug wrench. Remove the spark plug and inspect the end. If it is coated with gasoline this could indicate a problem with the carburetor or a blockage in the fuel line.
- 2). Remove the top to the gasoline tank on the Toro 20622. Slip a dipstick into the gas tank to see if there is any gasoline left. If the gas tank is low on fuel, the mower won't run properly.
- 3). Pour out any old, leftover gasoline from the gas tank from the previous year. Ask a friend to help you turn the Toro 20622 over on its side so you can pour the gas out of the tank. Place a large container under the opening to the gas tank to collect the old gasoline. You can also siphon out the gas with a gasoline siphon and empty it into the container. Pour fresh gasoline into the tank when you're finished. If there is water in the old gas it will prevent the Toro from running properly.
- 4). Look to see if the choke is stuck in the open position. If so, the engine is getting too much air and won't run properly. If the choke is stuck open, it may need repair.
- 5). Check the air filter on the Toro 20622. If it is covered with dust and dirt, the engine won't get enough fresh air to function properly. You may need to replace the air filter.
