Stunt Scooters have become incredibly popular over the last couple of years. The increase in popularity is no shock, they create endless amounts of fun, great exercise and a new challenge for the rider.
Stunt scooters are great for any age not just kids. All major brands have quite big ranges which means that all riders are able to have the perfect suited stunt scooter for their needs and abilities. With so many different brands including Storm, Razor, Madd Gear and Slamm constantly improving their stunt scooters why would they be unsafe? In my eyes they are very safe if used properly. All fitted with rear brakes, great bearings and grip tape the rider has great control at all times.
However it is understandable why some people may think that stunt scooters are dangerous as Max Parks (sponsored stunt scooter rider), has been injured twice, one being critical when he was only 13 years old. He was executing a trick when he fell off the side of a ramp and had to remain in hospital for quite a long time. Neither of these injuries were due to the stunt scooter being dangerous. After his critical injuries in 2010 as soon as he was ready he was back to riding stunt scooters. Other than this case serious injuries on stunt scooters are near to nothing. Other injuries such as cuts, bruises, muscular or broken bones are more apparent however these are apparent with any type of sport.
There are obvious risks of any activity as there is with kids stunt scooters and that is why there are safety measures which should be taken such as skate helmets and pads. Any knock to the head can cause serious damage weather it is from tripping when walking or falling off a stunt scooter. Skate Helmets instantly minimise the chance of serious head injuries.
When used correctly stunt scooters are far from dangerous. As long as the rider knows what they are capable of and never try any tricks or stunts which they haven't mastered, then there is no reason why stunt scooters are dangerous. New riders should never attempt any major stunts without supervision or safety equipment. Eventhough to progress riders will have to try new tricks for the first time this can be done in different ways and steps which will minimise the risk of injury.
I don't think there is any reason why someone shouldn't have a stunt scooter. It is never the scooter itself causing injury or danger it is usually the misuse or the very rare freak accident. If anything they are a lot safer than what some kids are doing these days.
