Black Toenail Remedies and Causes!

Black toenail is when your toenail becomes blackened due to infection or bruising.
The causes of black toenail are usually either bleeding, or fungus.
Firstly, black toenail can be caused when you stop your toe or drop something upon it.
This causes your toe to bleed beneath the nail, causing a bruise which leaves your toenail blacked.
This can also be caused when you cut your toenail too short, or nip it accidentally when you have cut it.
This is also quite common among athletes.
Athletes who run without socks on, or who may have new trainers, can rub their toe, and cause blood to gather beneath the nail.
Secondly, black toenail can be caused through fungus.
Again, commonly, athletes will experience this due to their use of public areas which spread fungus, and the wearing of shoes in which they have been sweating.
If your running shoes are not properly cleaned, and wiped clean of the sweat which gathers within them when training, then you have an increased risk of toenail fungus.
Similarly, going to public places such as pools, gyms and saunas were there is water and were people sweat can highly increase the risk of suffering from fungi which cause black toenail.
So what are the remedies for black toenail? The best treatment for black toenail fungus is to use natural remedies.
The use of over the counter medications is ineffective on toenail fungus, and though prescribed medicines can be more effective, they can also cause highly dangerous side effects.
Some natural remedies include soaking your feet in Listerine, or in Beer.
Beer has natural antifungal properties, and so this can help to fight the fungal infection.
However, it will take you a long time to treat this, usually between two to four weeks.
These remedies for black toenail fungus should always be used alongside preventive techniques however.
Make sure you wash your trainers and wear socks with them, especially with new running shoes.
You should always attempt to wear sandals in public areas for as long as is possible, as this will dramatically decrease the risk of suffering from black toenail fungus again.
