- Creeping charlie leaves are small, round and scalloped, like a geranium's in shape. Stems of the plants can grow as long as 15 to 30 inches, with roots forming at leaf joints. This makes digging up the plant time consuming and frustrating. In the spring, the plant produces tiny lavender flowers.
- The best way to prevent a creeping charlie infestation in your lawn is to keep your grass healthy with proper watering, fertilization and mowing techniques, according to the University of Minnesota Extension. Reduce shade sources wherever possible if your lawn receives little sun.
- Although some people fight creeping charlie by applying borax to their lawn, borax is not a registered pesticide and can damage other plants as well. A better solution, states the University of Illinois Extension, is to use a post-emergence broadleaf weed killer containing salt of dicamba.
