- 1). Mix together two boxes of white cake mix and two cans of clear soda. Mix with a hand mixer or stand mixer for two minutes.
- 2). Divide the batter into six smaller bowls. Make the division as evenly as possible, but it won't ruin your recipe if you have more batter in one bowl than another.
- 3). Mix one color of gel food coloring into each small bowl. Make one bowl of batter for each of the following colors: red, orange, yellow, blue, green and purple.
- 4). Spray the inside of two round cake pans with baking spray. Preheat the oven according to your cake mix package directions.
- 5). Drop half the contents of the red bowl into the center of one cake pan. Don't spread out the batter or otherwise move it. Drop half the contents of the orange bowl directly on top of the red batter. Continue on with yellow, green, blue and then purple batters, plopping each color right on top of the one before.
- 6). Fill the second cake pan in the same way as the first, but reverse the order of the colors. Start with the purple batter and end with the red.
- 7). Bake the cake layers according to the package directions. Allow the cake to cool, then frost it with white frosting. Slice the cake with a knife at the birthday party to reveal the tie dyed rainbow interior.
