- 1). Choose which poker card you want to dress up as. Everyone has a favorite number, but the ace is usually the most popular card because it is the most valuable card.
- 2). Get two large white thin poster boards and make sure that they are identical sizes. Choose one poster board that you will use for the front of the card and lay it out on a table.
- 3). Use a pencil to draw out the number or letter of the card in the top left hand corner and the bottom right hand corner. Fix any mistakes you have made and use a yardstick to make the letters look clean and straight-edged. Some cards feature the numbers in all four corners, but typically it is just the top left and bottom right of the card.
- 4). Fill in the letters using a red or black marker. Use a red marker if you plan on using the diamond or heart symbols and a black marker if you plan on using the club or spade symbols.
- 5). Draw the card’s symbol directly underneath the letter or number The symbol should be just a little bit smaller than the number or letter.
- 6). Draw multiple symbols in the center of the card if your card is a number. For example if you choose the number 6 of diamonds, then you will draw 6 diamonds in the center of the card and evenly spaced.
- 7). Draw on a royal figure if you choose a jack, queen or king for your playing card. Use actual playing cards for reference. These are highly detailed figures that may take a while to draw, so you could print out enlarged pictures as well.
- 8). Take the other piece of thin white poster board to design the back of the card. Usually the backs of cards are either red or blue, but you can use any dark or bold color.
- 9). Draw a rectangle one inch from the edge that follows the design of the poster board. Add another rectangle two inches on inner edge of that. Inside of that rectangle, draw a diagonal grid with a card symbol in the center. This will create the classic look of a playing card. Use the yard stick to guide yourself for crisp and straight lines.

Use a stapler to attach the straps to both cards. Make sure the straps are close enough together to hang off of your shoulder comfortably. Try on the costume and make any adjustments as needed.
