- 1). Fill a large coffee can with outdoor silicone caulking in a well-ventilated area. Silicone caulking is available at hardware stores.
- 2). Wrap and tie a piece of 10-inch fishing line around the metal base of the light bulb you want to coat with silicone.
- 3). Dip the light bulb into the silicone caulking while holding the fishing line. Stop before the silicone touches the bulb's metal base. Only coat the glass.
- 4). Pull the light bulb out of the silicone caulking in a slow, rotating motion. Rotating the bulb while pulling it out helps apply an even coating.
- 5). Use the fishing line to hang the bulb in a well-ventilated area. Choose something like a coat rack, shower rod or hook where the bulb can hang undisturbed and allow the bulb to dry for 48 hours before use.
- 6). Repeat this process with as many bulbs as you want coated. Place the lid on the coffee can to preserve leftover silicone.
