- One factor affecting how often to bathe your yorkie is its hairstyle. Depending on which of the many styles you've chosen, you may need to bathe it anywhere from once a week up to once every three weeks. A puppy haircut is rather short and doesn't need to be washed that often, perhaps up to every three weeks. You should wash a really long coat once a week since it has a tendency to collect dirt. Bathe yorkies with sensitive or dry skin less frequently (every other week or longer) than those with normal or oily skin (once or twice a week).
- Oils are necessary to keep body heat from escaping from your dog during cold weather, so during cooler seasons, you should bathe him less frequently than you typically would. If your yorkie is energetic and likes to get into a lot of dirt when playing, you are going to bathe him more often than average. Do so on a need basis whenever he gets dirty.
- If you have allergies that are triggered easily, wash the dog as often as needed so they don't flare up, but don't do it so frequently that the dog is stripped of the natural oils on her skin (no more than three times a week). You may choose to wash a very hyperactive or anti-bath dog less frequently than you typically would to reduce the amount of stress on both you and the dog.
