5 Big Blogging Mistakes That You Could Make

If you want to know more about the world of creating a blog or if you've been doing blogs for a short time and find it isn't quite working as you expected, you could spend some time understanding some common mistakes that bloggers make that make it hard to cope with what should be an enjoyable, satisfying experience.

The five most common blogging mistakes are:

Rushing in (rather than wading in)

Having unrealistic expectations

Losing focus

Plagiarizing

Not considering the reader

Diving in – Many are so anxious to be started they hurry with the process instead or going slowly and thoughtfully. People actually drown because they don't consider the depth of the water before diving in. You can liken this to the online blog arena. There are things to consider first.

Use a focus in your blog that reflects your knowledge and interests. Ask what you enjoy writing about. Make up your mind first about what your blogging subject will be. It could be politics, religion, science, comedy, exercise, diet, diseases, etc., etc.

Take the time to see many blogs first, noting colors, graphics and layouts to get an idea of what appeals to you. Also note that some bloggers write long stories and others are brief and to the point. The main thing is you write what people want to hear, unless you just want the online blog so you can read it. Cater for everyone's style if you want visitors to stay.

Decide if you want to use your real name. Consider what you will write about and if you want to be identified. You may not get the response you could be expecting, as blogging is a very competitive field. First of all do your keyword research to check this out.

Unrealistic expectations - If you start to blog expecting instant results such as a large readership and many complimentary comments, you may be disappointed. There are tens of thousands of blogs online vying for the same visitors. Patience and tenacity are essential for your success. By writing well, having unique features of a niche, using attractive titles for your posts and constant promotion of your blog you will get the readership and comments expected.

Losing focus - If you divert from the subject of your original intent you will not be focused any more. Be sure you stay true to your original beliefs for your readers. Some readers return because of those original posts and find they don't like change. It's OK to divert slightly if you still refer again to your original basis. This will avoid having to start over again.

If you need to write about a different topic then just start another online blog for it. Most website hosts will allow you several domain names on the one account.

Plagiarizing – If you see something you want from another blog or an article don't just copy and paste it and add it to your blog. You need to put it into your own words and not mention any credit to that writer for your words. You can write a better account of it and to be fair you can mention where the idea came from.

Not considering the reader – you need to cater for different points of view when blogging if you expect to keep most readers happy. Also if your blog accepts comments you need to answer these promptly. If you do you keep your readers happy and they are likely to stay around. Be courteous and thankful to your readers always.

If you take all of this into consideration when planning a blog you will have a head start to make a success of it. There are rules online and search engine requirements you may want to look into. Have a happy blogging career.
