Screenwriters Adam Cooper and Bill Collage have worked on projects such as "New York Minute," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and "Wrong Turn," and are currently pounding away on the screen version of the popular franchise, "Where's Waldo?". There seems to be a 'teen' theme running through their work, however Cooper and Collage stress it's basically the luck of the draw when it comes to which of their projects goes into production first, second and third, and the order of that production is what has gotten them mislabeled as 'teen' writers.
"For us, we?ve done 15 things ? a big cancer drama, big action heist movies ? and those are just ones that haven?t really gotten made yet. It just worked out in the way that. You?ve got to kind of mix it up or you?ll go crazy. I don?t think we?d ever want to be the guys that just wrote a lot of anything, whether it?s sad or whatever. It just so happened that 'I?ll Be Home for Christmas' and 'New York Minute' and then our next one is a comedy, and then we?re doing 'Where?s Waldo?' - those are the four that have hit the theaters first," explains Collage.
And what about "Where's Waldo?" What can fans expect from the screen version? Collage and Cooper are very enthusiastic about this particular project and hope "Waldo" fans will be happy with their vision. "'Where?s Waldo?' is being produced by Nickelodeon and Alan Rich. It?s at Paramount. It?s going to be this gigantic, magical, eyepopping thing for 4 year-olds to 4 year-olds of all ages. You know what I mean? I want it to be first movie my kid sees and literally, I want to see his eyes pop out of his head.
It?s colorful, it?s amazing," says Collage, adding, "It?s going to be a combination of live action with a lot of computer stuff. Vibrant colors ? it?s going to be just an enormous spectacle."
According to the screenwriters, casting has not been done however Collage has a very definite idea of who he'd like to see in the role of the illusive Waldo. If Collage had his way, the primary candidates would be Ashton Kutcher ("The Butterfly Effect") or Jimmy Fallon of "Saturday Night Live" fame.
