There are three trimesters in a pregnancy and different developments come with each week.
Here is a breakdown of your pregnancy, starting with the "before conception".
1-4: During week 3, chromosomes are on the move, DNA combining from mum and dad.
At week four you might experience symptoms that come with your period - sore breasts, fatigue, etc.
, but your menstrual cycle will not come.
5-8: Your baby is tiny, but it's brain is developing quite rapidly in week 7.
During this period also, pancreas, bronchi and parts of the eyes are formed as well as continued development of the arms and legs.
While you approach week 8, elbows, fingers and toes start to develop and the baby is about half an inch long, or about the size of a pea.
9-12: At week 11, you can expect your baby to grow about another inch by the end of the week alone.
When week 12 arrives, you might find yourself starting to adjust to the outside symptoms while inside, amniotic fluid is formed and fingers and toes start to separate.
13-16: At 15 weeks, the skin is thin, but the bones are getting stronger and harder.
When the end of the fourth month approaches, you may be able to be feel the movement and at 16 weeks, your baby will have fingernails and plenty of hair.
17-20: Vernix commonly forms around week 19; this is a waxy substance that forms on the baby's skin to protect it from its aquatic environment.
On the 20th week, you are halfway through and should spend as much time sleeping as a newborn - which means some of the time, it should be awake and moving.
21-24: At this point, proportions are becoming what they should and the baby should weigh about a pound.
When the end of the month approaches, the baby starts to fill out with muscle and will gain about six ounces by the end of 24 weeks.
25-28: As the 27th week approaches, the brain continues to grow, and your baby should be about one foot and four inches long while 28 weeks ushers in open eyes and muscle tone.
29-32: Week 31 will show us that the only thing truly left to develop is the lungs and during week 32, you will have a baby whose senses are fully functioning with toenails and everything in place.
Week 33-36 36 weeks will bring us to possibly dropping into the birth canal and your baby could be born at any time.
37-40: On the 40th week get ready for birth, because even though a due date is an estimate, you could still give birth at any time.
Week-by-week guides are solely that a guide to the complexities of a growing baby.
Every woman is different and every fetus will grow differently, but this is a good estimation of what can happen, or should be happening.
Remember also that as you consider this pregnancy week-by-week estimation, you should be preparing for what happens in the weeks after you give birth to that beautiful baby as well!
