Hemorroids During Pregnancy

Hemorroids are a very common condition related to pregnancy and childbirth.
They could be developed during the first pregnancy or later.
However, id a woman has had hemorrhoids before getting pregnant, there is a considerable chance she could get them again even in the early trimesters.
Hemorrhoids can be developed while giving birth, during the pushing episode.
Anyway, these hemorrhoids often disappear soon after childbirth.
What are the pre-conditions of hemorrhoids during pregnancy? Pregnancy is a period when a woman is prone to varicose veins anywhere on her body.
The reason is the ever enlarged overload of the uterus which puts pressure on the veins in theh lower part of the body.
This way, the return of blood from the lower parts of the body is slowed which puts extra pressure on the veins which are located below the uterus.
As a result, these veins become swollen and dilated.
Rectal veins are no exception to this phenomenon which leads to the formation of hemorrhoidal units.
Straining during defecationand constipation are another short cut to hemorrhoid formation.
If hemorrhoids are already existent, the latter could aggravate them.
The veins of the pregnant women swell very easily because of the increased levels of the progesterone hormone which has the property to relax the blood vessels walls.
Progesterone slows down the intestinal tract which leads to constipation.
What are the possible relieves in hemorrhoids during pregnancy? oTry soaking the affected area in lukewarm water for a quarter of hour several times daily.
oUse ice blocks packed in soft cloth to apply and withdraw them alternately on the rectal area.
Ice could help decrease discomfort and pain.
oTry to apply cold compresses saturated with witch hazel.
They usually work well on the hemorrhoidal lumps.
oAlternate the warm and colds methods.
Start with ice pack application and go on with a sitz bath.
oUse wet wipes for personal hygiene rather than toilet paper.
You could buy medicated wipes for people suffering from hemorrhoids.
oUse hemorrhoid-relief products which are safe for pregnant women.
Before buying an over-the-counter product you should consult your doctor in order to choose the most suitable one.
Most of the hemorrhoidal suppositories and ointments should be used for a short treatment only, usually a couple of days and no more than a week.
Otherwise, they could increase the symptoms and provoke an even greater inflammation.
How to prevent the occurrence of hemorrhoids during pregnancy? Although pregnant women are at higher risk and more susceptible to hemorrhoids, there are a couple of ways that could ward hemorrhoids off and eliminate them if they are already existent.
Here are some tips: oNever postpone the urge for bowel movement.
Try not to strain while moving your bowels to avoid unnecessary pressure on this area.
oAvoid constipation - drink water, at least 8 glasses a day and eat high-fiber diet.
In case you are constipated, use laxatives and stool softeners together with fiber supplements to your diet.
oExercise regularly - tone up your the muscles, especially those in the lower body area.
