- 1). Clean out the built-in Weber, if you have not done so after the last time it was used. Remove the old coals and scrape down the grate with a grill or grate scraper.
- 2). Place two or three loosely rolled wads of newspaper onto and in the middle of the grate.
- 3). Stack briquettes in a pyramid shape around and over the balls of newspaper. Use sufficient briquettes to form a pyramid that reaches to just under where the grill will rest.
- 4). Light a match and set one of the rolled up pieces of paper alight.
- 5). Allow the briquettes to burn until most of the surface of each one has turned gray on the outside, but is burning red deep inside. This process will normally take about a half hour.
- 6). Spread the burning briquettes evenly across the charcoal grate.
- 7). Ensure that the cooking grill is clean before use. Scrape off any old grease and dust with a grill brush. Wash the grill in hot water and detergent. Rinse the grill under hot water. Dry the grill and place it over the burning coals.
- 8). Place the meat or vegetables on the grill. Place the food directly over the hottest part of the fire if you want the food to grill quickly. Place the food to the side of the most intense heat, if you are preparing thin pieces of food or want the food to be cooked at a slower pace. Monitor the progress of the grilling, as per the preference of those who will be eating the food. Some people prefer meat that is still fairly raw, while others will request meat that is particularly well cooked.
- 9). Place the grilled food on a cutting board prior to cutting and serving.
