- 1). Choose card stock with a matching envelope according to your preference in size. Fold 8 1/2-by-11 inch paper at the mid-point for a common birthday card size. Choose a color that you like, but a natural or ivory tone will be more suitable for a vintage feel rather than a standard white color.
- 2). Design your card on a piece of scrap paper. Cut out the Victorian die cuts -- which you can find at speciality craft shops and stores -- and experiment with their positions on the card before you choose your final design. Plan whether you will write with the calligraphy pen only inside the card, or on the outside too.
- 3). Glue down your die cuts into the desired position on the card stock, and allow them time to dry.
- 4). Write your personalized message with a calligraphy pen. Many pens come with examples of writing that you can copy. Send your card to a loved one.
