- 1). Access the IRS's tax return request Web page (see Resources). Download, print and complete Form 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return, to request a copy of your 2009 tax return. Provide required information such as your full legal name, current and previous mailing address and social security number. Mail the form and the required fee to the address listed on the document. As of January 2011, the fee is $57. It can take up to 60 days to process your request.
- 2). Log onto your tax preparer's official website. Many companies retain a copy of your previous year's tax return through their online database. For instance, Tax Act customers can opt to import a prior year's tax return information to the current year's tax return account for filing purposes or to print a copy from the website.
- 3). Contact your tax consultant. Your CPA or tax attorney maintains a database of your current and previous years' tax returns. Complete a request form, if required, and request a copy of your 2009 tax return by phone or by mail. Consult the individual accountant or attorney regarding the time frame for receiving the documents.
