During the winter, Michigan gets plenty of snow--and enough cold weather to make the snow last. Not surprisingly, the state is home to numerous snowmobile trails, most of them groomed specifically for the sport. While dashing through the snow, snowmobilers will see frozen lakes, waterfalls, wildlife and deep forests. Most snowmobile trails are near towns that offer lodging and dining options. - Iron County, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, has about 250 miles of groomed trails, including the Crystal Falls Trail. The trail, which can be accessed in the town of Crystal Falls, passes near streams, rivers and a thick forest. The town itself features historic bridges, monuments and buildings. Other attractions include downhill skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, camping and fishing. Snowmobile and ATV repair shops also can be found in Crystal Falls.
