- 1). Drive the Grand Prix for at least 20 minutes. The engine and transmission fluid should be warm to get an accurate transmission fluid level reading.
- 2). Park the car on a level surface and place the transmission in "Park." Pull the hood release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle. Leave the vehicle running and go to the engine compartment.
- 3). Pull the transmission fluid dipstick from the slot on the right side of the engine. The transmission fluid dipstick handle is yellow and has "ATF" printed in raised letters.
- 4). Wipe the dipstick clean with the towel and return it to the slot. Remove it once more and read the level of fluid on the stick. If the fluid level is lower than the two notches closest to the handle, the transmission needs more fluid.
- 5). Place a funnel into the dipstick slot. Put transmission fluid into the funnel.
- 6). Clean the dipstick with the towel and replace it into the slot. Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level. If the level of fluid is between the two notches closest to the handle, the fluid level is sufficient. If not, replace the funnel and add more fluid.
- 7). Replace the dipstick once the fluid level is at the acceptable range and close the hood of the Grand Prix.
