- 1). Wash the water bottle with a mild dish washing soap and allow it to air dry. This will remove any oily residue or dirt that may be on the water bottle.
- 2). Draw a picture on the water bottle using the pencil. Draw the design lightly so you can erase any mistakes. Do not make pictures with lots of detail. Large open shapes and letters will be easier to color in than intricate details.
- 3). Trace the pencil lines with a paint pen or permanent marker. Using a dark color, like black, will give a nice contrast to the other colors.
- 4). Color in the picture using the paint pens or permanent markers. Do not worry about perfection. Make the colors as silly or crazy as you want.
- 5). Set the water bottle aside to dry for at least 24 hours. Place it somewhere where no one will accidentally smudge the paint.
- 6). Wash the water bottle in warm water and a mild dish detergent after each use. Do not place a plastic water bottle in the dishwasher. The extreme temperatures may make the colors fade or the water bottle melt.
- 1). Design a template for the water bottle. A pre-designed template, which you can personalize, is available at the Jody Prouse website. You may change the images and wording to suit your needs.
- 2). Print out the labels on a 8.5-inch by 11-inch sheet of photo paper. Use a laser printer if you plan to place your water bottles in a bucket of ice or water. The ink from ink-jet printers will run if exposed to water.
- 3). Cut horizontally between each label with a pair of sharp scissors.
- 4). Remove the original label from the water bottle by peeling off the label. Do not worry about any glue residue left on the bottle, as the new label will cover this.
- 5). Wrap the label around the bottle securing the ends with glue dots.
