- 1). Determine the size of the base for the saw. Cut 1-by-4 pieces of lumber to that size with a handsaw. Measure and mark the cut location, and cut them to size with the saw. Position the four pieces so they make a rectangular base, and run a bead of wood glue between the pieces to secure them all together.
- 2). Cut a sheet of 1/2-inch plywood to size, to sit on top of the rectangular frame you have created. Measure and mark the cut piece with a pencil, and cut it to size with a circular saw. Follow along the cut line with the blade of the saw. Secure it on top with wood glue.
- 3). Attach all the casting brackets on the base of the saw. Screw the brackets in the base at each end, and set the metal cutoff saw down into the base. The location of the brackets will vary, depending on the type of brackets you are using and the size of the saw you are setting on top.
- 4). Set the saw and the blade into the casting brackets, and screw into place so they are secure. Plug in the cutoff saw, and flip the switch to verify it is working properly. Check that the base is secure and not moving around. This will indicate it is steady and built properly.
