The Islamic religious community celebrates the Ascent of the Prophet Muhammad from what is now the Dome of the Rock monument in Jerusalem on September 1. A religious bulletin board for September on this topic will include an abbreviated story of the ascension of the prophet and pictures and information on the Dome of the Rock and its significance. The bulletin board could also show the significance of angels in this story and stories from other religions. The board can be divided into three sections and each section dedicated as follows: the first section to the story of the ascent, the second section to the history of the Dome of the Rock, and the third section to the universal themes in the religious story. Another possibility would be to put a large image of the Dome of the Rock in the center of the board with the story and history of the Dome in text and pictures around the central image or illustration. - Italian communities celebrate the Feast of San Gennaro, the Patron Saint of Naples, from Sept. 15-25. A religious bulletin board for September could focus on the story of San Gennaro, a religious martyr from 305 AD. Addressing other religious martyrs or patron saints could broaden the topic. Images of religious statues of the saints, plus illustrations of the countries of origin and abbreviated stories of these saints could be included. Other Catholic saints for September would include St. Matthew (September 21) St. Thecla (September 23) and St. Raphael (September 29).
- The Fall Equinox is celebrated late in September and marks the first day of autumn. It is also known as the Festival of Dionysus and the Feast of Avilon. A discussion of the celebration of the changing of the seasons by countries all over the world and its religious significance to different faiths will make a compelling religious bulletin board for September.
The board will illustrate the relationship between the Equinox and the traditional Feast of Michael the Archangel (September 29th,) as well as the Native American celebration of Chumash and the traditions of the Druids. - Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the Jewish New Year and considered to be one of the holiest days of the year to those in the Jewish faith. Observed in late September, a bulletin board will focus on the origins of Rosh Hashanah and the way the holiday is observed. Illustrations of the traditions and text including descriptions of religious practices and their meanings for this holiday can be included, as well as images related to the event.
