Health Benefits of Drinking Tea

Tea is the most popular beverage in the world, only second to water. The Chinese invented tea over 4700 years ago. It continues to be one of the most preferred drinks in most parts of Asia, and the Chinese people revered to such an extent that they hold ritualistic elaborate tea ceremonies. The tea is derived from Camellia sinesis plant, which is a native of India and China, and is one of the main reasons for their popularity in these parts of the world.

Tea can be of many types, but true tea aficionados only consider three types of tea- Green tea, black tea and white tea. Tea is always preferred over coffee for many reasons. For one, tea contains less caffeine compared to coffee. Less caffeine means no insomnia and a tea consumer does no crash as fast as a coffee drinker does. Tea contains just enough caffeine and theanie to keep your mind alert without making you hyperactive. Tea contains flavanoids like ECGC, which helps reduces chances of cancer, and is also good for the heart.

Green tea is made from steamed tealeaves. It contains the world's best antioxidants, and scientific research shows that regular tea drinkers gain invaluable health benefits. Research also shows that green tea drinkers have a 5% less chance of dying from any illness. Green tea also contains flavanoids that inhibits growth of cancer cells, and also helps lower the risk of stroke and heart attacks. Regular consumption of green tea also helps prevent tooth decay.

Back tea is more oxidized compared to green tea, because the tea leaves are fermented in order to obtain the black tea. It also contains slightly more caffeine content compared to Green tea. Black tea also contains more flavanoids and is generally good for one's health. Black tea is also low in sodium, fat and calories. This is very beneficial for the health. People who want to lose weight and the one's who want to watch their weight prefer black tea. it is also filled with antioxidants which reduces chances of cardio vascular problems.

Apart from the three favorites, we also have herbal tea, which has recently gained massive popularity. Unlike regular tea herbal tea does not use tealeaves, instead it is made from flowers, roots, seeds, grass fruits etc. brewed in hot water. The chemical composition of herbal tea varies wildly depending on the ingredient and plants used. Herbal teas come in different varieties like, ginger, ginseng,  mint, hibiscus, rooibos (red tea), jasmine, Echinacea etc. herbal teas are especially beneficial in reducing weight, helping you sleep and in warding off cold.

As the famous saying goes, too much of a good thing can also be a bad, hence, despite its health benefits, it is advised to drink tea in moderation. It also has antimicrobial properties. Adapting tea into your lifestyle should be just as simple as replacing other junk sugary and caffeinated drinks with healthier teas.
