- 1). Stand at the pitching line, feet hip width apart, near the stake opposite to the target upon which you are trying to score.
- 2). Hold the horseshoe firmly between the thumb and fingertips of your dominant hand. Center your thumb atop the lip on the rounded end of the horseshoe. Position your fingers underneath the other side for support.
- 3). Extend your arm in front of your body and look between the two ends of the horseshoe. Center the target stake directly between the ends and focus on this point.
- 4). Swing your arm straight back behind you, past your hip to prepare to throw the horseshoe onto the stake.
- 5). Swing your arm forward as you step forward with one leg to throw the horseshoe. As your arm extends to the point that you lined up previously, let go of the horseshoe.
- 6). Experiment with throwing strength and height until you can pitch the horseshoe onto the stake to score a ringer each time.
