In order to treat bad breath you have to identify the cause of it. You could use sprays or mouthwash frequently but that is only masking the problem and not solving it.

Bad breath of halitosis, its official name, is caused by either a problem in your mouth or in your digestive system.

To treat bad breath in the mouth, look for gum infections, an abscess or problems with your teeth which include the ability to trap food which would allow it to go rancid in your mouth providing the odor.

You need to brush your teeth often and when you do it, do a good thorough job of it.

Also, stick your tongue out and take a look at it. The tongue can and should be brushed or, scrape it using a special tool available at drug stores. Scraping sounds worse than it really is. It actually feels good to scrape.

You should also be flossing as well. The trick to flossing is you don't want to get just between the teeth but get the floss down in between the tooth and the gum to remove any plaque build-up.

If you have frequent canker sores or gum infections, try reducing your consumption of meat and dairy and increasing fruit and vegetables. This will reduce the alkaline in your mouth and your mouth will be a more healthy environment.

What they used to use for breath was parsley, that is why you see it as a garnish on your plate when you order at a restaurant. I think most people assume it's just for looks so they disregard it but try it after you eat, you might be surprised.

Another good herbal remedy in fenugreek. You can make a tea by steeping the seeds in water, then strain the fluid and use it as a mouthwash or drink for digestion.

To treat digestive problems that cause bad breath, the simplest method is to purchase some digestive enzymes. The over processed foods we ingest don't have a lot of digestive enzymes left in them so you need to supplement them. They are available online fairly inexpensive.

The motto with fruit is 'eat it alone or leave it alone'. It should be eaten as a first course so it can pass through quickly or as a snack. The problem with mixing it with fatty foods is that its process of digestion in the stomach will be delayed and it will start to ferment or rot which can cause an odor.

Meat takes a long time to pass through your system and can be difficult to digest if you have a slow or weak digestive system. Try reducing the quantity of meat you eat as well as leaving a 4 hour period in between meat consumption to allow it to digest.
