How to Save a Chipped Tooth

A chipped tooth is a tooth problem that may result from playing sports, having an active lifestyle and meeting an accident.
These events promote or have higher possibilities of your mouth to collide with other hard body parts or things.
Your tooth is chipped if it has lost some parts or even a crack that looks like you haven't loss a part of its structure.
Some people who suffer from a chipped tooth are not even aware until they had felt pain when the chew or drink.
If you have a chipped tooth, you don't need to worry because there are many ways to save your tooth.
If you have just gotten a chipped tooth from having to play a rough game, or being involved in an accident, don't panic.
Stay calm and stay focused.
Losing focus will only lead to further confusion.
Inculcate in your mind where and whom to approach first if you have a chipped tooth.
The best person to consult is your dentist.
Locate your chipped tooth.
Try to feel and see what part is damaged and how damaged it is.
If you are far from your dentist's office, you can perform first aid.
If the damage is large or if the tooth is entirely lost, try to gently clean the tooth with a solution of milk and water.
Leave your tooth submerged in the water and milk solution.
Do not remove any surrounding tissues and nerves in the tooth.
Go and see your dentist.
If after checking your tooth and you have observed that it only has minimal damage, you must not neglect it.
You must immediately see your dentist whether the damage is minimal or large.
Waiting before consulting your dentist will just increase the damage and the deterioration of the tooth.
Neglecting your chipped tooth will just lead to a tooth infection which is much worse.
The dentist will be the one to assess what treatment measures must be done.
There are many ways for you to treat a chipped tooth, and the type of treatment depends on the damage of the tooth.

The dentist will ask if you have felt some pain and will have dental x-rays done as soon as possible.
If the damage is just minimal, the dentist can simply file the tooth.
Sometimes, if the dentist doesn't recommend anything, then there's nothing to worry about.
But in most cases, dentists treat chipped tooth even if it is just a minor case.
The dentist will use composite or porcelain veneers to bond the tooth back together.
These veneers will give a smooth finish and a pleasing appearance to your damaged tooth.
A badly damaged tooth can also be treated.
A crown can be used to cover the tooth and protect it from being easily damaged.
This crown also improves the tooth's appearance.
The chipped tooth can also be filled with fillings that are made to look like real teeth.
If the filling is not applicable because the tooth is totally damaged, the dentist can give you an advice on how to extract the tooth and have it replaced.
