Veneers - They"re No Magic Wand, but They"re Close

We are a celebrity saturated cultured, and one that is super focused on appearance. Consumers spend lots of money trying to replicate celebrity fashions, fitness routines, and style choices into their own lives. One area of celebrity primping that has become more open and publicized in the past decade is cosmetic dentistry and the use of porcelain veneers. This has led to an upsurge in demand for the procedure from a public who has grown accustomed to seeing nothing but beautiful perfect teeth on television, in films, and in the glossy pages of magazines.

The abundance of celebrities who've had the procedure can make it seem as though having veneers put on your teeth is as easy as waving a magic wand. While they are an excellent way to improve your smile, the process is a little more complicated than people expect. If you're considering getting veneers, it's important that you understand what the procedure will be before you make the decision.

While the ease with which celebrities seem to change their appearance make it seem like you can get a new smile overnight, the implementation of veneers will take at least three visits to the dentist. You see, a veneer is a small shell that will be placed over some or all of your existing teeth to give your smile a more attractive appearance. This means a plan must be made to get the shells to fit into your mouth specifically, and your teeth must be prepared to make room for the porcelain shells.

Once you've found a dentist who's reputation you can trust, your first visit will be about figuring out exactly what kind of changes you want to make to your smile. You should bring in pictures if there is a specific look you have in mind, but be prepared to hear your dentist out, for he or she will have to see what can be done with the existing structure of your teeth. This procedure is going to change you physically, so be sure to ask lots of questions and make sure that you understand and are comfortable with the plan your dentist makes for you.

The next step is preparing your teeth for the porcelain shells. In this part of the procedure, your dentist will gently buff away some of your tooth volume to make way for the shells. In the end, you won't end up losing that much tooth, but this may require a local anesthetic. Once they're prepared, he or she will take a mold of your teeth off of which your porcelain shells will be made. This can take one to two weeks and so you will have to wear a temporary veneer while you wait. The final step is having the shells cemented to your teeth, and after that you're free to get out there and share your new beautiful smile with the world.

If you want a gorgeous celebrity smile and none of this has deterred you, then by all means, find yourself a cosmetic dentist and inquire about veneers, and find yourself seeing a Hollywood smile in the mirror instead of just in magazines.
