- 1). Park the Yukon on a level surface. Open the hood for better lighting while working under the truck.
- 2). Slide a drain pan under the oil pan, which is directly under the engine.
- 3). Unscrew the drain plug with a socket wrench. Allow the oil to drain out in to the drain pan. Tighten the drain plug once the oil has stopped draining.
- 4). Unscrew the oil filter toward the front of the engine with an oil filter wrench. Some oil may pour out while unscrewing the filter. Place the old filter in the drain pan.
- 5). Fill the new filter with fresh oil. Dab some oil on the black gasket around the top of the filter.
- 6). Tighten the oil filter on to the oil filter housing by hand. Do not tighten with a wrench, as this will strip the threads on the filter and the housing.
- 7). Unscrew the oil fill cap on the top of the engine. The cap is on the side of the valve cover and is labeled. Pour in five quarts of oil.
- 8). Pull out the oil dipstick to check the oil level. The dipstick is located by the oil cap. Wipe off the dipstick with a clean rag. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it back out of the tube. Check where the level is on the dipstick. If the oil does not reach the "Full" mark on the dipstick, add half a quart of oil. Check the level, and continue to add more oil in the same way until the oil registers at the Full mark.
- 9). Start the Yukon and allow it to idle for five minutes. Turn it off and let it sit for five minutes. Check the level once more to ensure that it is full.

Tighten the oil cap on the engine. Close the hood. Dispose of the old oil at a recycling center.
