Gynecomastia is the abnormal development of womanly breasts in a man.
It results from the overdevelopment of the male's mammary glands and its cause is not exactly known, although the leading theory is that it is due to an imbalance of sex hormones.
In other words, it may be caused by a man having too much feminine hormones coursing through his body.
This can be a debilitating experience if it is acquired by a boy who is still in school, because of how cruel kids can be to each other.
He may get called awful names that taunt him for being a "girl" or "womanly".
The good news for a boy in this situation, however, is that it will usually go away as he enters into adulthood and his body undergoes deeper fundamental changes.
the condition will just sort of leave as if it had never been there in the first place.
Gynecomastia is also fairly common in elderly men.
As their skin starts to sag with age and they become less and less physically active, they may develop at least the appearance of something resembling a woman's breasts.
At least by this time they probably don't care, seeing as they have bigger life or death problems that may be confronting them on a daily basis.
In certain cases, the gynecomastia may be the side effect of a drug being taken for a separate and unrelated condition.
If this is the case, then it may be possible to talk to one's doctor about finding a different drug that will not cause the same side effect.
Also, one may want to start up a new regimen of exercise and see if that does anything to alleviate the problem.
