Nursery Theme Ideas

    Jungle or Animal Theme

    • If you have decided to wait to learn the gender of your baby, creating a nursery that has a jungle or animal theme may be the perfect option. Purchase your crib bedding and match the wall paint colors to the bedding. You can go bold, using dark greens and blues for the jungle, or use lighter hues in the same family. Buy accessories that have animal prints and a few stuffed animals. Your baby will love them, especially as the child grows older. Want to bring the sounds of the jungle to your baby's room? Consider buying a sound machine. The sound machine will both soothe your baby for better sleeping as well as create an animal atmosphere.

    Sports Theme

    • Maybe you want to introduce your baby to your favorite sport or sporting team while he is an infant. The nice thing about using sports as a theme is that you typically have items already in your own home that you could use to add décor to the baby's room, such as authentic sporting equipment or team apparel. Use complementing paint colors, hang shelves with memorabilia, sporting equipment or sports pennants. Customize a sign or banner in the room with your baby's name. Purchase baby toys in the shape of a bat, stuffed basketball or football. If your baby grows up a sports fan, the theme of his room may not change, just evolve as he gets older.

    Girlie Room

    • If you are having a girl, consider a princess, fairy or ballet dancer theme. Choose paint colors in bubblegum pink, light yellow or cream for the walls. Using tutus, crowns or magic wands, you can make your baby's room feel special. So many accessories are sold in pink colors that you will have no problem finding items to decorate the room with.

    Beyond the Ordinary

    • Consider using a modern theme, with clean lines and large polka dots in neutral colors. Use colors other than just pink and blue, such as chocolate brown, lavender or orange. Bring in a lighting fixture for the room, maybe even a chandelier. Think about using "green" fabric and paints to show your baby how you have concern for the earth. Most important, bring in touches of your own taste and style.
