Inc.
Magazine publishes a yearly list of the fastest 5000 growing companies in the United States called the Inc 5000.
The companies are ranked based upon their annual revenue growth over a three year period.
The following growth calculation is used by Inc.
: [(2012 revenue / 2009 revenue) - 1] x 100 = total growth percentage Example: if 2009 revenue was $2 million and 2012 revenue is $8 million: $8 million / $2 million = 4 - 1 = 3 x 100 = 300% growth over the three year period.
When we looked at the number of 8(a) firms on the list in a given social group compared with that group as a whole the statistics were staggering.
We found that the percentage of 8a firms in the top 25 of each social group category ranged from 16% to 48% of that group.
These are extremely high percentages given the number of 8a firms relative to the population of these companies as a whole.
For Example: African American: There are 1.
9 million African American owned businesses in the United States.
