- Mid Michigan Community College offers an accredited, one-year certificate program in phlebotomy. The program consists of 51 hours of classroom training in anatomy and 30 hours of hands-on training in drawing blood samples. Toward the end of the program students are required to complete 120 hours of clinical practicum through a local hospital. Students will have the ability to practice their skills by drawing blood from the inpatient, geriatric and pediatric populations of the hospital.

The last eight weeks consist of a clinical practicum that is assigned and supervised by the course instructor. Some clinical sites include Duke University Medical Center, Durham Regional Medical Center and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The first semester involves classroom and lab instruction where students study such topics as infection control, capillary skin punctures, urinalysis, fecal occult blood testing and pregnancy testing. The second semester is 120 hours of clinical practicum through a site assigned by the course instructor. Financial aid is available in the form of scholarships.
